Chronic Dev Team has finally released the much awaited GreenPois0n RC5 which brings full untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak for all iOS devices. Unlike Redsn0w 0.9.7, GreenPois0n RC5 doesn’t require you to have SHSH blobs of 4.2b3 saved on Cydia. You can jailbreak any iOS device out of the box on iOS 4.2.1 using this latest version of GreenPois0n.
The following instructions will help you jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 2G/3G/4G, iPad and Apple TV 2G using GreenPois0n.
NOTE: If your iPhone 4 relies on an unlock, do not update to iOS 4.2.1 yet as doing so will upgrade your baseband, making it impossible for now to unlock.
Step 1: Download GreenPois0n from the link given below.
Step 2: Connect your iPhone via USB to your computer and click on “Jailbreak”
Step 3: Now follow the following onscreen instructions to enter DFU mode:
* Press and hold the sleep button for 2 seconds * Continue holding sleep; press and hold home for 10 seconds. * Release sleep button; continue holding home for 15 seconds.
Step 4: GreenPois0n will now start “Jailbreaking” your iOS device untethered on 4.2.1
Step 5: Your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch should now be successfully jailbroken on iOS 4.2.1. Now start “Loader” found on the homescreen and install Cydia
Redsn0w untethered Jailbreak Beta 6 from the Dev Team has just been Released for beta testers. (Still for Mac only)
Update #6: The sixth beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). This version fixes Skype. Please do not pirate the 4.2b3 IPSW! Only those enrolled in the iPhone Developer program have legitimate access to that IPSW using these links (the links won’t work unless you’re a legit developer currently logged in).
Unlike the last few betas, you can freely run beta6 over beta5 without a problem (but for testing purposes, we’d really like people to try both ways….from stock, and from already jailbroken).
Now that the sandbox, Bluetooth, and Skype issues are fixed, our next priority is porting Monte back to 4.1. We’ll also try to make the Windows version less painfully slow.
Yes you read that right ! An Italian site contacted Comex of Spirit and JailbreakMe fame to ask him about whether or not he is going to release his untethered jailbreak tool for iOS 4.2.1. Comex’s reply was swift and simple, à la Steve Jobs. He is going to wait for Apple to release the next firmware update to public before releasing his tool.
Just like Steve Job’s ones, I would like to really receive a short and direct answer to my question: your next tool will jailbreak ready for iOS 4.2.1 or the next iOS 4.3?
Comex replied:
Depends when 4.3 is out.
The email address of Comex as shown in the screenshot above seems authentic as he posted the same address publicly in a reply to a user on his Twitter account.
So as things stand now, the only way to get untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 is to use the latest version of Redsn0w 0.9.7, which requires you to have SHSH blobs of iOS 4.2b3 saved. There is currently no other way to get untethered jailbreak except for Redsn0w. If you don’t have SHSH blobs of iOS 4.2b3 saved, you can use Redsn0w 0.9.6 which can jailbreak (tethered only) all iOS devices on iOS 4.2.1.
Comex untethered jailbreak tool will be released only after Apple releases iOS 4.3 or 4.2.2, whichever they decide to before the major iOS 5.0 release in June this year. [Thanks iDarkman for the hat tip]
More than 300,000 Amercans have signed our petition opposing the "Internet Blacklist Bill" -- the Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA).
The bill would give government officials the power to force Internet service providers to block your access to certain sites. It's shockingly similar to what happens in places like China and Iran -- and it's the kind of thing that's just not supposed to happen here.
We delivered the petition to the Senate's most powerful players, and one bold Senator -- Oregon's Ron Wyden -- made it clear that he's on our side: He put what's known as a "hold" on the bill, blocking it from passage this session.
The big business lobby want to censor the Internet, and is putting lots of pressure on Wyden to back down: the bill will almost certainly be taken up anew when the Senate reconvenes, and we need him and other Senators to stand strong.
